A small victory for Pembury

You may recall my post regarding the name of the new Pembury Hospital (“No Answer Yet? We’ll Ask Again Then”, 18th June 2010) which echoed the concerns of Pembury residents as to whether Pembury would be included in the name.  I’m pleased to say I received the response below from Graham Goddard, New Hospital Development Director who says:

“Kevin – Just to reassure you that the Trust took note of the Pembury residents and it is proposed to call the new hospital “The Royal Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury”. Our Chief Executive Glenn Douglas agreed this with representatives from Pembury Parish Council some months ago. We are currently awaiting a decision from the Ministry of Justice regarding the use of the “Royal” prefix. At present we do not know whether it will be permitted. In the event that our request is denied then the intention is to use the name “The Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury”. Hope this clarifies the current position.”

So assuming no last minute hitches it seems that locals have some cause to celebrate, at least in the name of their new hospital!
