I went with my eldest daughter on Saturday afternoon to meet a group of Pembury residents outside the King William pub, from where we walked through the fields and into the woods to celebrate the completion of the first stage of work to reopen the Old Coach Road.
The work was completed by local volunteers under the watchful eye of Hugh Boorman, and advised and supported by the Kent High Weald Project. June Crowhurst, Pembury Borough Councillor and Chair of Pembury Parish Council gave thanks to all those involved, and graciously thanked me for donating the project funding through my KCC Member Grant fund.
As we enjoyed a delicious buffet and orange juice with sparkling wine, I thought how remiss it was of me never to have explored this little secret corner of Pembury before. It’s a real jewel, and I look forward to the completion of the next stage of work to open up more of this amazing area of woodland.
