it’s been a long time coming

It’s been a long time coming, but today, at Pebbles Children’s Centre in Gravesend Kent Savers was finally declared open for business.

The Kent-wide Credit Union will provide savings ethical savings accounts for anyone who wishes to save with them, but just as importantly, it will provide a much-needed simple loan facility to some of Kent’s more financially vulnerable residents.

With the UK in the grip of a vicious recession, the most straightforward problem – like needing to buy new school clothes, or having to repair the fridge freezer – can so often prove can prove insurmountable when money is tight.

In conjunction with a ‘crackdown’ by Kent Trading Standards on the loan sharks who turn difficulty into misery for thousands every day, let’s hope Kent Savers – which has been funded by Kent County Council to the tune of £250,000 – can make some of those lives a little easier.
