Avatar – not just a 3D spectacle

I took my daughters to see the 3D version of James’ Cameron’s movie “Avatar” last weekend.

It was stunning – not the typical “throwing things into the audience” type 3D movie, but a fascinating, compelling and salutory moral story of identity and conservation.  Even without the novelty of 3D, the movie would still have been well worth seeing, and even last weekend – weeks after initial release – the cinema was packed for the screening.

So it’s no surprise that Avatar swept the board at the recent Golden Globes ceremony at the Beverley Hills Hilton – Best Film, Best Director in James Cameron, and well on its way to becoming the biggest moneyspinner movie of all time, having grossed £1,600,000,000 since its release in December 2009.

Just a word of warning though – we sat expectantly in the front row with our 3D glasses on, but felt quite queasy by the end of the film.  if you get the chance to sit further back when you go to see it, take the opportunity!
