It must have been pretty daunting – this morning’s Breakfast show on BBC1 pitched Joanne Cash, the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Westminster North against veteran Labour heavyweight Tony Benn MP.
The item referred to the fact that almost a third of MPs are expected to step down at the next election. Why, they asked, would anyone want to be an MP?
Fairly unsurprisingly, Joanne Cash – as a practising barrister – was just as calm and confident as Benn, and both interviewees made the point that public service is a priviledge.
If only all Parliamentary hopefuls were as lucid, bright and sensible.
