A few days ago, I commented on Harriet Harman being left in charge while Gordon Brown left for his annual leave a fortnight ago. It seems though that not even running the country is enough to sustain Ms Harman’s interest. She left on Thursday evening for her family holiday, passing the parcel that is the UK to First Secretary Peter Mandelson.
Sadly, Lord Mandelson is himself still on his holidays in Corfu, and is allegedly running the nation from his Blackberry.
I recall being on the first floor of Number 10 some months ago, in the company of Brown, Blears, Straw et al. Mandelson was there too, but ignored everybody preferring instead to stand alone in the corner tapping at his Blackberry.
I wonder which country he was running then?
