Dover’s public art

Chaired yesterday morning’s meeting of the Dover Pride Regeneration Partnership today. The meetings are always well-attended – by SEEDA, the Homes and Communities Agency, Dover District Council, Dover Harbour Board and so on.

We heard an update from the Programme Director Anne Knight on the various projects currently in process around Dover, and saw the new DVD which Kent County Council have funded.

And we joined two local artists going ‘walkabout’ around Dover’s town centre to look at their newly-commissioned artwork.

This is such a great idea – rather than a shabby empty shop front, or a graffiti-covered hoarding surrounding a building site, this public art uses those spaces as their canvas and provokes thought.

It’s a great idea which we’re bound to see across the county before long.
