Just a few days on from the shock revelations of Labour ‘special adviser’ Damian McBride’s email slur campaign, and things are going from bad to worse.
Sir Gus O’Donnell, head of the civil service has today announced a new code of conduct, where advisers who spread such “inappropriate material” will in future be dismissed immediately.
But why does a drama always have to turn into a crisis for this to happen? Why do the headline have to reverberate with yet another Labour scandal?
And above all, in an age where at best, voter apathy means only six out of ten people will turn out to put a cross on their polling slip, how can this Labour government be allowed to further demean our democracy with a culture which allows stunts like this to happen?
