An unedifying spectacle

So whilst Employment Secretary Tony McNulty sat on the panel of BBC’s Question Time defending Home Secretary Jacqui Smith for claiming living expenses at her sister’s home, it turns out he was doing exactly the same thing, claiming £60,000 of our cash for a property in Harrow where his parents live, just a few miles down the road from where he personally lives in Hammersmith, West London, in a property owned by his wife.

Apparently Mr McNulty felt “uncomfortable” claiming the expenses, but nevertheless managed to steel himself and pocket our cash.  It’s an unedifying spectacle – and I’m sure some will claim that the Conservatives have not always been whiter than white.

But every time another politician does something dodgy with taxpayers’ cash, a few more people start to turn away from democracy, and a few less people bother turning out to vote.
