When words seem impotent

Every now and then, the high-power world of national politics gets a sudden jolt. That happened yesterday with the shocking news of David cameron’s son Ivan.

Just six years old, Ivan was born with an unusual strain of cerebral palsy, in addition to suffering with epilepsy.

On Wednesday night he became ill; by Thursday morning he had died, leaving the Westminster village in shock, and the Camerons quite understandably wishing to be left alone in their grief.

Sometimes life seems so unfair, and words, however well intentioned, seem impotent.
