You know that feeling when you’re a little child going to bed on Christmas Eve? Well I have just that feeling this evening, because this week we’re pulling down the Quarry Road toilets. Having been out yesterday and today knocking doors around St James, it looks like lots of other residents feel the same as I do.
It’s taken months – even years – to get where we are. The disused toilets have become something of a testament to inactivity – inactivity at the Borough Council, and inactivity of local Borough Councillors. Despite protests from local residents, shops and parents whose youngsters have to walk past this eysore to get to either St Barnabas School or the Barna-Bus preschool nursery, the toilets have remained in place.
But this week they come down – and both Father Ed Tomlinson and I will be there to cheer quietly. It’s been a long struggle.
