In a not entirely unexpected reshuffle, Conservative Leader David Cameron will bring back his former leadership rival Kenneth Clarke to the front bench team. The former Chancellor, now 68 will take on the role of Shadow Business Secretary from Monday, facing New Labour Lord of Darkness Peter Mandelson.
Current Shadow Business Secretary Alan Duncan will apparently be offered an alternative post. The move is sure to delight many. On the doorsteps and at conferences, I wish I had a pound for every time someone lamented Clarke’s loss from the front bench.
Just don’t start making Europe the biggest issue, Ken. Remember the election in 2001.
