Why do I do this job? Here’s why

Whilst I don’t want to identify the writer, I was really touched by an email I received on Sunday evening from a Sherwood resident.  I apologised for the fact that I was unable to attend a community meeting this week as it falls on the same evening that I attend my selection interview for my County seat in next year’s elections.

The email said simply:

Many thanks for letting us know.
You as a person have the power to change my political views.     Go for it.
Sometimes, when the bureaucracy and rules get really frustrating, you wonder why you do this job.  When you get an email like this, you know why.
