Sadly, my wife accidentally broke her wrist yesterday evening, and had to attend the Kent and Sussex Hospital in Tunbridge Wells.
Accident and Emergency isn’t too much fun at the best of times, let alone on a Friday night. Unsurprisingly, there were the usual car accidents and falls, but what struck my wife was how many drunks there were at eight o’clock in the evening.
Most poignant for her was that on her left hand side was a fourteen year old boy who so drunk that the doctors spent at least ten minutes of their valuable time trying to get him to open his eyes.
On the other side of her was a ninety year old man who had been in an accident and was quite badly hurt. His only concern when doctors got to him?
“I will be alright to attend the Armistice Day service, won’t I?”
