Just start dancing with Mandelson

There was a rather surreal moment this morning on the Andrew Marr ‘AM’ show on BBC1. Just before the show ended, Marr brought up the subject of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ with his guests – David Cameron, Sheila Hancock and new peer Lord Peter Mandelson.

Marr commented that Mandelson was disappointed at not being invited to take part in the show – “all sequined up” said Marr, then quickly moved on.

Cameron then offered up ‘bluff Yorkshireman Eric Pickles for a ‘dance off’ with Mandelson, and the conversation became even more strange.

Finally, Cameron asked who would have thought a few years ago that a ballroom dancing show would have been a ratings hit (did he ever see Come Dancing with Wogan and Rippon?).

Mandelson then began to talk of his uncle, who officially launched the Festival of Britain as a tonic to ease the post-war austerity of Britain. My uncle’s idea was “Let the people sing” said Mandelson. “Now let the people dance”.

Extraordinary – what planet is Mandelson on? Business failing? House reposessed? Neighbour’s child being abused?

Just start dancing…

Lighten up a bit Kevin… we could do with a little more banter in politics….

It could be worse you could be trying to sell your house at the moment whilst watching the pound drop like a stone against the Euro…. net result looks like you will have to put up with me for another year !!!
